Game Art – Shovel Knight (Heart Knight)

Apart from being a fantastic game that everyone (including me) seems to have fallen in love with, Shovel Knight is also chock-a-block full of awesome character designs. Personally I was blown away by some of the fan art on the Kickstarter page, which inspired me to try and devise my own knight. There were many ideas I had, but I finally decided on Heart Knight, because I thought it was different and focused on an emotional power rather than magic, animal transformation, fairy tales and so on. I didn’t want to stray too far from the original character, but I did streamline the shovel design and added a heart at the end of it. I also altered Shovel Knight’s colour scheme to pink/red in order to symbolically represent love, and gave him a cape to add a touch of mystery. The final product is a digital art piece (done via Photoshop) with a small logo that summarises Heart Knight’s personality.

Thoughts and criticisms are most welcome. Yacht Club Games will be releasing Shovel Knight for 3DS and Wii U in Australia next month, which I think warrants buying another copy even if you have it for PC. If you haven’t played Shovel Knight yet, I highly recommend you check it out on Steam for $14.99 USD.
